Job Description

Purpose/Scope

Responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of environmental, health, and safety programs so that Fabcon follows legal and regulatory requirements and provides a safe and healthy place to work.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist management in the development of overall environmental, health, and safety program for plant and field operations  
  • Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and training  
  • Develop and implement employee safety orientation and training programs  
  • Conduct work area inspections and major incident investigations  
  • Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions and accident investigation reports  
  • Review documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted per established procedures, and implement corrective action as required  
  • Assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations  
  • Perform safety audits  
  • Conduct the loss control data/documentation collection  
  • Ensure maintenance of major safety equipment  
  • Coordinate return to work/modified duty program  
  • Investigate accidents and injuries and preparing materials for company use in worker’s compensation proceedings  
  • Audit and complete environmental report i.e. Storm Water Permit, Air Quality Permit, etc.  
  • Ensure that company facilities and practices are in compliance with government safety regulations  
  • Lead and conduct safety audit and conduct follow-up inspection for compliance at all facilities and job sites  
  • Audit employee training records and advise training as necessary  
  • Issue safety equipment and conduct safety training programs  
  • Conduct training sessions for employees and managers  
  • Influence the closure of environmental issues with the local management team  
  • Develop action plans to address safety issues and environmental compliance  
  • Make recommendations to senior management regarding compliance to local, state, and federal regulatory industries  
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards in all areas and departments and advise management on needed actions  
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reading and attending continuing education workshops for safety and environmental professionals  
  • Partners with the Risk Coordinator and HR to drive compliance with Fabcon’s drug testing program  

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the health and safety field  
  • Good presentation and training skills  
  • Good people skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to develop and implement environment and safety programs  
  • Ability to establish and maintain record keeping in compliance with all company and regulatory agencies  
  • Able to set high standards and get results  
  • Ability to lead, motivate and influence with and without direct authority  
  • Strong situational analysis skills, to identify problems and solutions  
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and e-mail)  
  • Good knowledge of state, federal, and local laws pertaining to the general industry and construction industry  
  • Understanding of county and state environmental compliance issues in all areas that Fabcon produces and erects  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified safety professional and/or safety degree preferred  
  • Associates degree or higher in an environmental, health or safety discipline 
  • One to three years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial or construction environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel  
  • Office: Move 25lbs (not for all jobs, reasonable accommodations will be made), work with a computer for extended periods of time   
  • Plant/Yard (periodic): Move minimum of 50lbs., spatial awareness/depth perception, walk, climb, bend at the waist, reach, forceful use of hand tools, vocal projection 

Work Environment

  • This position works in office and plant environments with occasional travel and visits to field construction sites  
  • Office: Quiet with some ambient noise, climate controlled, fluorescent lighting   
  • Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways  

This position has an anticipated salary range of $80,000 - $105,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
