Local Foods Production Intern (Part-Time, Seasonal)
"Recreate" a better life with a career in the field of Parks & Recreation!
This nine (9) week paid position will introduce the employee to small-scale production agriculture through hands-on experiences in the fields and with the livestock at Wagner Farm.
JOB SUMMARY
- Work with horticulture staff to plant, tend to and harvest crops in our three-acre production fields
- Participate in the processing of vegetables and eggs for our CSA, Farm to Table Foods and retail sales
- Prepare products to sell at the Farmer’s Market each week, setup, run and tear-down Farmer’s Market booth and interact with Farmer’s Market customers
- Assist in weekly assessment of fields, identify crops ready for harvest, and work with Produce Coordinator to prepare weekly CSA baskets
- Work closely with scheduled volunteers and groups, assist in identifying tasks for volunteers each day and work alongside volunteers to complete those tasks
- Assist Wagner Farm Manager in feeding, pen cleaning and performing medical assessments of the livestock at Wagner Farm
- Learn food safety protocols and procedures and help ensure volunteers are correctly following guidelines
- Contribute to WF social media through input given to the Wagner Farm Media Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS
- The best applicants will be at least 16 years of age or older and currently enrolled in either high school or college preferred. No prior experience in agricultural work needed but a desire to learn more about where our food comes from and the work required to raise it a must. Ability to perform medium duty work required.
SCHEDULING & PAY
- This is a nine (9) week job opportunity that looks to have the successful candidate work eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days a week. The pay rate is $15.00/hour. The work schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday. Personal protective equipment and limited uniform supplied.
