This position is the evening shift and works every other Saturday and Sunday.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining medication carts, supplies, and pharmaceutical records within a correctional facility. This role ensures accurate medication administration, compliance with regulatory standards, and adherence to facility security protocols. The Pharmacy Technician prepares and restocks medications, monitors inventory levels and expiration dates, maintains MAR documentation, coordinates with pharmacy vendors, and supports audits and P&T meetings. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong pharmaceutical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a secure, physically demanding environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
Medication Management & Administration Support
- Purge medication carts daily, using census logs to remove discontinued or discharged medications.
- Stock and maintain medication carts and monitor daily par levels.
- Check for expired medications, supplies, and solutions, and remove as needed.
- Prepare and update Medication Administration Records (MAR) for each cart daily.
- Review MARs after medication administration to identify missing or restocked prescriptions.
- Ensure endorsements and proper documentation for stock supplies used during medication passes.
- Organize and coordinate medication distribution while maintaining strict adherence to security protocols.
Inventory & Vendor Coordination
- Monitor medication inventory, expiration dates, and stock levels to ensure continuity of care.
- Interface with pharmacy vendors, including order placement, delivery coordination, and resolving discrepancies.
- Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) meetings and support quarterly pharmacy audits.
Regulatory Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Enter and maintain inmate medication profiles in the ECorrRx system.
- Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and facility regulations governing pharmaceuticals and controlled substances.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist licensed pharmacy personnel and nursing staff as directed.
- Participate in training, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the facility or pharmacy supervisor.
