THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION TO RUN FROM 2026-2029
POSITION DUTIES:
The Vocational Specialist supports the implementation and daily operations of the Together We Work Pilot Program, and initiative designed to prepare individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) for careers in peer support and direct support roles. This position assists with outreach, recruitment, training, internship coordination, and participant support to ensure the success of program activities. This position reports to the program coordinator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Operations & Coordination:
Assist the Program Coordinator with day-to-day operations of the program
Support the development and delivery of training sessions following established curriculum and agency guidelines
Help create, organize and maintain program materials, documentation, and tracking tools
Coordinate with internal departments - including Training, Vocational, Finance and Program teams - to ensure seamless operations
Outreach, Promotion & Recruitment
Conduct outreach to provider agencies, care managers, community stakeholders to promote the program
Participate in recruitment activities, information sessions, community events, and presentations
Screen potential participants and assist in the application and onboarding process
Training & Participant Support
Provide support during instructional sessions, workshops, and hands-on learning activities
Assist participants in developing vocational skills and preparing for internship placements
Offer guidance, encouragement, and individualized support to participants throughout the program
Internship Coordination
Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to identify and arrange internship opportunities for participants
Maintain communication with internship sites, monitor participant progress, and support successful placement outcomes
Compliance & Documentation
Follow program curriculum, agency policies and procedures, and all regulatory guidelines
Maintain accurate documentation, attendance, progress notes, and records in accordance with agency standards
All other related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
Minimum 2 years' experience working in the I/DD field
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and digital documentation systems
Ability to work collaboratively with participants, families, and partner agencies
