Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking two experienced Handy Persons to join our growing team supporting a major, high-traffic aviation precinct in Mascot.

Working within a dynamic 24/7 operational environment, you will deliver responsive and preventative building maintenance services across a highly visible and fast-paced site environment. Reporting to the Facilities Management team, you will play a key role in ensuring assets remain safe, functional, and well-presented at all times.

This role suits someone adaptable, proactive, and confident working in a highly visible environment where service quality and responsiveness are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver preventative and corrective maintenance across building fabric and general assets 
  • Complete repairs including carpentry, doors, locks, fixtures, fittings, patching and minor structural works 
  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests within required timeframes in a 24/7 shift environment 
  • Maintain internal and external building presentation to a high standard 
  • Accurately complete and update work orders using CMMS systems 
  • Ensure compliance with WHS, airport safety requirements, and safe work practices 
  • Support coordination with specialist trades to ensure minimal operational disruption 
  • Participate in shift handovers, defect reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Proactively identify and resolve maintenance issues to support asset reliability 

Education, Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Trade qualification (Carpentry, Building, or similar) or equivalent hands-on experience 
  • Experience in general building maintenance within commercial, industrial, or high-traffic environments 
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills 
  • Experience using CMMS/work order systems (e.g. Maximo or similar) 
  • Strong understanding of WHS and safe systems of work 
  • Ability to work shift rosters including nights, weekends, and on-call 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly visible operational environment 

Desirable

  • Experience in aviation, transport, or other critical infrastructure environments 
  • ASIC clearance (or willingness to obtain) 
  • Exposure to airport or large public facility operations
