Job Description

Hematology/Oncology Division Chief – College of Medicine, Knoxville

This position is a non-tenure track, part-time 70% position.  

This position offers a balance of clinical, administrative, and research opportunities. 

Responsibilities

  1. Fulfill responsibilities as academic and administrative leader of the Division.
  2. Provide guidance and leadership to ensure that the hematology/oncology fellowship runs smoothly and is successful in attracting high-caliber fellows to the program.
  3. Build a research program in the division with the goal of achieving National recognition and achieving cancer center designation by NCI.
  4. Participate in academic and scholarly activities and publish regularly in peer-reviewed journals.
  5. Develop and implement curriculum for residents and students during their hematology/oncology rotation. 
  6. Place high priority on maintaining a high-quality educational experience for residents and medical students.
  7. Promote faculty needs and encourage effective communication between faculty, residents and staff.
  8. Participate in the education of residents, fellows, and students and develop a regular teaching schedule.
  9. Guide faculty, residents, and students in scholarly activities, including preparing abstracts, manuscripts, and grants for submission.
  10. Participate in relevant meetings and committees and be involved in developing, organizing, and implementing current policies and procedures in the department and the institution.
  11. Assist in developing business plans and budgets for the Division.
  12. Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Chair of the department. 

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must possess an MD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent with current ABIM board certification in hematology and/or oncology and have at least 5 years of post-fellowship experience with an illustrious track record of patient care, research, educational, and academic accomplishments in addition to strong administration and leadership abilities that will support appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
