Role Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Analyst, Medical Malpractice Research to design and execute analytic projects that inform risk mitigation, quality improvement, and patient safety strategies. This role blends technical data expertise with research design and analytic skills to produce actionable findings for CRICO and its stakeholders.  The analyst will collaborate with clinical subject matter experts, data engineers, and statisticians to turn data into knowledge that informs patient safety initiatives and organizational strategy. The candidate will also apply artificial intelligence methods to help analyze and effectively use malpractice claims data and other data sources.

You will bring deep analytical expertise, project leadership, and subject matter knowledge, with a focus on healthcare data relating to quality of care and patient safety.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and lead complex business analyses and research projects from design through dissemination, including defining objectives and methods.
  • Develop and maintain deep familiarity with CRICO data, including claims, contributing factors, clinical metadata, and related contextual information.
  • Develop and maintain deep familiarity with patient safety and malpractice risk.
  • Design and conduct descriptive and advanced analyses using statistical methods and artificial intelligence.
  • Apply statistical testing to support conclusions and validate patterns in malpractice and healthcare quality data.
  • Create insightful data visualizations and reporting tools to support data exploration and interpretation.
  • Collaborate across departments — including Patient Safety, Claims, Finance, Underwriting, and Candello.
  • Provide consultation and guidance on data-related questions, research planning, and interpretation of malpractice trends.
  • Write and deliver clear, compelling summaries of research findings for clinical, legal, and executive audiences.
  • Ensure data quality and methodological rigor in all analyses, especially when using large, complex healthcare datasets.

 

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Services Research, or related field, along with several years’ experience analyzing healthcare data with a focus on quality of care, clinical outcomes, and/or patient safety.
  • Advanced Degree (MPH, MS, PhD) strongly preferred.
  • Prior work in academic research, health systems, risk management, or liability insurers preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in descriptive analytics, statistical testing, and advanced analytics using SQL, Python, R, or similar tools.
  • Expertise in the use of artificial intelligence, e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot, for data exploration, searching, and analysis.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in initiating and designing analytics projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex findings and communicate insights effectively through reports, presentations, and consultations.
  • Ability to act as an internal consultant, providing expertise and support to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with healthcare systems, clinical workflows, and the intersection of quality, safety, and legal risk.
  • Commitment to methodological integrity, ethical data use, and clear documentation of analysis.
  • Experience working with medical malpractice/litigation datasets.
  • Knowledge of patient safety principles such as root cause analysis, safety event classification systems, or harm taxonomy frameworks.

Summary

The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000 annually. This represents the employer’s good faith estimate of the compensation range at the time of posting. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, education, and qualifications.
