Job Description

The Ocosta School District is accepting applications for Substitute Cooks.  We are interested in candidates who are committed to students and to a continuing program of personal and professional growth.

General Qualifications:

  • Food Handler's Permit 
  • High School Diploma
  • Washington State Driver's License
  • WSP Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Cook Duties:

  • The cook's primary responsibility will be to assist the head cook in cooking, baking, preparing, and serving food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements; verifying quantities and specifications of orders; maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition; and assisting assigned food services personnel in food preparation.
  • Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Maintains all food handling and storage in compliance with state health department guidelines.
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and determines if the finished product is of best quality, both in flavor and appearance before it is served.
  • Serves breakfast and/or lunches to students or sells ala carte items.
  • Cleans cafeteria area, including the sanitation and wiping down of tables prior to storage.
  • Assists head cook as requested.
  • Reports immediately to the food service supervisor any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen or on the cafeteria premises.
  • Reports to the food service supervisor any faulty or inferior quality food that is received.
  • Performs the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils.
  • Performs other food service-related duties as assigned pursuant to the contract.
  • Performs the essentials of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Completes work assigned.
  • Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Must have regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and common sense.
  • Capable of standing/walking without restrictions.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate and care for kitchen equipment and ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
