Job Description

Position Summary:

The Preauthorization Coordinator is responsible and accountable for managing preauthorizations/referrals for medical and surgical specialist appointments and is the resource person for medical staff and patients to ensure proper insurance coverage requirements are met and correct documentation is completed. This position will be the patient advocate for facilitating specialist appointments and providing exceptional customer service in the referral process. The Preauthorization Coordinator provides support calls to ensure timely, efficient communication between patients and referral provider offices allowing for a smooth coordination of the patient between the primary care provider and specialists. The Preauthorization Coordinator is also responsible for obtaining prior authorizations for procedures ordered by providers.


Job Relationships
:

  • Reports to the Preauthorization Coordinator Lead, collaborates with all hospital and clinic staff.


Education and Training Required
:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient with Medical Terminology.
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.


Experience
:

  • One year or more of hands-on healthcare experience in a clinical setting or a combination of customer service and healthcare experience.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records and referrals.
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 or CPT coding.
  • Experience obtaining insurance authorizations.

:

  • Excellent communication skills, grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Ability to use the following equipment: personal computer, FAX machine, photocopier.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Resourceful; Is aware and utilizes the resources that are available.
  • Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations in a calm manner.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Reception and/or switchboard experience.
