Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Registered Nurse will be clinically competent while delivering care to residents as well as upholding residents’ rights, dignity, and autonomy, ensuring they receive the individualized care they deserve.

This role involves collaborating with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to create and implement personalized care plans. You will advocate for the residents’ choices, provide high quality clinical care, and promote a nurturing environment that enhances their quality of life. This role should be passionate about supporting resident rights and fostering a culture of respect.

  1. Patient-Centered Care Delivery
  1. Provide compassionate care that respects and promotes residents’ rights and preferences.
  2. Collaborate with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to develop, implement and regularly evaluate personalized care plans.
  3. Empower residents to make informed decisions about their care, supporting autonomy and personal choices.
  4. Advocate for residents by addressing concerns, resolving grievances promptly, and ensuring their voices are heard.

  1. Conduct comprehensive assessments, monitor vital signs, and respond promptly to changes in residents’ health conditions.
  2. Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
  3. Provide wound care, catheter care, and other nursing interventions as needed.
  4. Develop individualized care approaches that supports residents’ goals and enhance their overall well-being.
  1. Resident Rights and Advocacy
  1. Ensure residents are informed of their rights under federal and state regulations, including the right to participate in decisions regarding their care.
  2. Respect and uphold residents’ rights to self-determination, privacy and freedom from abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  3. Educate staff, residents, and families on resident rights, ensuring a culture of respect and dignity.
  4. Report any concerns related to abuse, neglect, or rights violations through appropriate channels in accordance with facility policy.
  1. Collaboration and Leadership
  1. Provide leadership and clinical support to Licensed Practice Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs), ensuring high standards of care.
  2. Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where interdisciplinary team members work together to meet residents’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
  3. Engage in family meetings to provide updates, review care plans, and involve family members in care decisions.
  1. Documentation and Compliance
  1. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all assessments, care provided, and resident interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  2. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Residents’ Bill of Rights as outlined by the Nursing Home Reform Act.
  3. Participate in audits, surveys, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the resident experience.

Supervisory Responsibility

This is a charge nurse position. The charge nurse is responsible for the Certified Medication Aide and the Certified Nurse Aides who are working during the shift.

Work Environment

Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. Incumbent may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  

This position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as lifting and supporting patients.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position in a hospital setting that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Rotating 12 hour shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.  Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, AA, on-call). Full-time hours in the nursing department are 3 shifts per week. Shifts may vary based on operational need. Part-time hours are under 60 hours per week. PRN hours are scheduled as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.​
  2. Knowledge regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Previous experience in patient care setting.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kansas.
  2. Current AHA health care provider training BLS .
