Summary
Position will be the system manager overseeing the Core Laboratory consisting of the Chemistry, Hematology and Urinalysis Departments at all sites. This position will have the responsibility for the technical aspects of all testing within all Core Laboratory departments for the system. This position will be responsible to organize the workflow to result in optimum efficiency utilizing appropriate metrics to maximize the departmental operational efficiencies. The department manager will collaborate with departmental pathologists and other subject matter experts on such technical issues as technical procedures, Quality Assurance, and appropriateness of testing. The Core Lab Manager, Sayre will report directly to the Administrative Director of the Clinical Lab, Sayre. The Core Lab Manager, Sayre will be expected to oversee, assist, and guide the Core Lab department at Sayre, as well as provide guidance to the Core Lab departments, Medical Directors and Administrative Directors/Managers/Supervisors at all affiliated sites.
Experience
Experienced Medical Technologist with a minimum of 6 years experience in the laboratory. Advanced degrees in Management preferred. Certification by ASCP Board of Registry or Board eligible is preferred. Experience must include escalating levels of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to manage staff in the achievement of department goals. Experience in Core Lab integrations is preferred.
Education
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in the physical sciences may be considered if paired with relevant experience in a clinical laboratory. Advanced management degrees or courses are highly preferred.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical leadership in assigned specialized areas within the Sayre Lab and all affiliated Core Lab sites. Is the subject matter expert for the System in Core Laboratory processes.
- Keeps up to date with current laboratory practices, procedures and techniques within their respective specialty. Maintains the required level of expertise through a variety of continuing education activities such as attendance at workshops/seminars. .
- Together with the Medical and Administrative Director, plans, coordinates and takes the lead in integrating Core Lab functions throughout all shifts, including scheduling, monitoring, data collection, data presentation and the implementation of approved new initiatives. Assists all affiliated Core Lab sites in this as well.
- Assists Administrative Director and other department leaders within the laboratory in the assurance of compliance with all state, federal and any other applicable regulatory agency requirements.
- Assists in maintaining departmental operations within the budgetary goals.
- Assists the site Directors, Manager and Supervisors and the assigned Pathologist in the evaluation of new instruments, equipment and/or new technical procedures. Makes recommendations for the acquisition of new instruments, equipment and/or new technical procedures. Acts as the lead on validation in the Core Laboratory Departments.
- Has primary responsibility for validation of all new equipment, instruments and testing procedures in the Sayre Lab areas of responsibility as well as provide appropriate guidance to affiliate Guthrie lab sites.
- Plans, conducts, prepares for, and attends and participates in departmental and administrative meetings as required. Leads system meetings regarding standardization of policies, procedures, processes and equipment in the Core Lab Departments.
- Assists Administrative Director and department leaders in preparing policies and procedures that support the laboratory’s provision of services and promotes standardization between all Guthrie Lab sites.
- Assures all policy, procedure, record keeping, quality control, quality assurance, testing, quality control and quality assurance documentation required are maintained and up to date.
- Assists in assurance and maintenance of all hospital and laboratory safety regulations, including the coordination of updating and communicating this information with the department.
- Schedules personnel, develops staffing plans and departmental assignments/ re-assignments under overall guidance of Administrative Director.
- Performs performance evaluations and participates in/or conducts disciplinary sessions as needed and maintains the documentation.
- Conducts employee interviews, orientation, competencies and education sessions as needed and maintains the documentation.
- Conducts departmental quality auditing and compiles required quality reports.
- Demonstrates excellence by promoting quality processes maintains a positive outlook and strives for continuing quality improvement.
- Coaches, mentors and develops direct and indirect reports.
- Works closely with Administrative and Medical Director. Maintains comprehensive communication with both directors. Functions as back up to the Administrative Director.
