ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Operational Excellence

  • Participate with, monitor, and assist participants with disability related needs within inclusive and specialty programs in all activities; programs include camps, lessons, sports, and skill development
  • With guidance from direct supervisor implement adaptive techniques, behavior management techniques and intervention strategies to allow for maximum program participation and to meet individual needs of participants with disabilities
  • Assist in identifying barriers, tracking and evaluating participant in program
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and participants on a daily basis, reporting daily schedule, participation, success and behavior concerns
  • Exercise confidentiality in all aspects regarding the participants in programs
  • Clock in and out accurately, complete accident reports, daily logs, behavior incident reports and other information as requested by supervisor correctly and on time
  • Utilize the Rockford Park District's HRIS system for all HR and payroll-related requirements and to accurately clock in and out for all shifts.
  • Act as an interactive positive role model, lead by example, and use good judgment at all times
  • Help enforce program policy and procedures using positive communication with program participants, parents/guardians and staff
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions as determined by supervisor
  • Work as a team to provide care for physical needs, toileting, transferring, or pushing participants in wheelchairs, while following RPD guidelines for personal care
  • Maintain a working knowledge of department safety procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

Education/Experience

Some experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred

  • Must be at least 16 years of age• Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Good organizational and leadership skills for daily supervision and direction of participants
  • Good communication skills including expressive, written, and receptive
  • Flexibility to work at various locations as assignments are subject to change during the length of the season
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and demonstrate flexibility as a team player
  • Ability to work in stressful conditions, including situations involving disability related needs and dissatisfied customers
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED training (Can be obtained through Rockford Park District as determined necessary by supervisor)

 

Physical Requirements

Medium work:

    • Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally
    • Exerting in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently

  • The majority of time spent in this position will be standing and moving.

Summary

With guidance from supervisor, implements adaptive techniques and intervention strategies to allow for maximum program participation and meet individual needs of participants.
