The Operating Room (OR) Control Desk Coordinator maintains the unit's supplies. Ordering functions, Information system and equipment repairs which supports family centered healthcare.
Responsibilities
The OR Control Desk Technician role is a support position for the OR Board Runner / Charge Nurses
The purpose of this position is to pull all tasks off the OR Board Runner as possible to allow the Board Runner to focus on optimizing clinical care and access to the OR
Duties to include OR case scheduling, facilitating flow of patients from the floor and pre-op, ensuring resources are applied to room cleaning, and handling all incoming communications to the OR front desk via phone, email, radio, or other means
Support daily case flow and logistics including moving cases on the OR schedule under the direction of the OR Board Runner / Charge Nurse, ensure PCAs / OR Logistics Technicians are deployed to transport patients, clean rooms, assist in duties as designated by the OR Board Runner. Keeping flow of patients and cases progressing in support of clinical decision making by the OR Board Runner
Manage all communications channels for the OR Control Desk and OR Board Runner including phone, email, fax, text, radio, and personal communication
Communicate routinely with the floors, units, PACU, SNC, etc. to facilitate patient flow
Responsible for managing and organizing incoming medical records, external and internal, scanning and indexing these records into the EMR
Primary focus will be on timely scanning and indexing of informed consent forms but may also include outside lab work and other forms and data needed for clinical care of patients within the OR
Includes adherence to all applicable health system and department policies, regular md timely attendance, works assigned schedule and overtime as required, supportive of all team members, patients, and customers
Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone
Responds to overhead pages
Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
Cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit
Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
Participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned.
Completes all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements
Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
Regular and prompt attendance
Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
Related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience in a healthcare setting Required
- Hospital experience and Operating Room experience are Preferred
