We are seeking an experienced Pega Application Engineer to support configuration, implementation, enhancement, and sustainment of an enterprise Pega-based SaaS solution within the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role performs hands-on Pega configuration, workflow implementation, low-code/no-code tailoring, defect remediation, sprint delivery, and operational sustainment support for a mission-focused PPBE, financial management, acquisition, reporting, and workflow modernization program. The Pega Application Engineer works closely with the Pega Lead System Architect, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, data/integration engineers, testers, release managers, and platform administrators to deliver secure, traceable, tested, and maintainable system capabilities in an Agile environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Configure and implement Pega application functionality aligned to approved requirements, user stories, workflow designs, and solution architecture.

·        Develop and maintain case types, workflows, business rules, decision logic, forms, dashboards, reports, access controls, and user-facing configuration components.

·        Support sprint execution by estimating work, completing assigned backlog items, participating in Agile ceremonies, and demonstrating completed functionality.

·        Implement configuration changes and limited customizations while preserving upgrade paths, modularity, auditability, and alignment with architecture guardrails.

·        Support PPBE, budget, acquisition, approval, reporting, and workflow capabilities through disciplined Pega configuration and implementation.

·        Collaborate with business analysts and Product Owners to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria, workflow logic, and implementation constraints.

·        Work with data/integration resources to support interface-related configuration, data validation, transformation logic, and system behavior related to data flows.

·        Support defect triage, root cause analysis, defect remediation, regression testing, and production issue resolution.

·        Coordinate with test teams to clarify expected functionality, support test case development, resolve defects, and validate fixes.

·        Participate in release planning, deployment coordination, configuration management, and change control processes.

·        Maintain technical documentation, configuration notes, implementation artifacts, and knowledge transfer materials in approved repositories.

·        Support O&M activities, including minor enhancements, production fixes, workflow updates, and sustainment configuration.

·        Follow secure coding/configuration practices, version control procedures, and federal IT delivery expectations.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

·        5+ years of progressive experience in Pega application development, Pega configuration, low-code/no-code implementation, software development, or workflow/case management delivery.

·        Hands-on experience configuring Pega applications, case types, workflows, rules, UI components, data objects, reports, integrations, or security/access settings.

·        Experience working in Agile delivery environments with user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and defect resolution.

·        Familiarity with Pega implementation best practices, reuse, guardrails, modular configuration, versioning, and release discipline.

·        Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into maintainable Pega configuration and implementation tasks.

·        Experience supporting testing, defect triage, regression validation, and production issue resolution.

·        Familiarity with integration concepts, APIs, data mapping, role-based access control, audit logging, and enterprise application security.

·        Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

·        Ability to work effectively with architects, analysts, testers, administrators, release managers, and Government stakeholders.

·        Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical work clearly.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

·        Pega certification such as CSA or CSSA is valued; equivalent hands-on Pega implementation experience will also be considered.

·        Exposure to Federal, state, health, financial, or other regulated IT environments is beneficial; Department of Veterans Affairs experience is a plus but not required.

·        Familiarity with SaaS implementations, workflow modernization, case management, low-code/no-code platforms, or business process automation is valued.

·        Working knowledge of release management, configuration control, defect remediation, Agile delivery, or production sustainment is a plus.

·        Exposure to accessibility, cybersecurity, auditability, or compliance requirements in an enterprise application environment is beneficial.

EDUCATION:
