The Durand Area School District is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Bus Driver. This full-time position is essential to ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and various school-related activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to student safety, excellent driving skills, and a friendly demeanor to foster positive interactions with students, parents, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized bus interior, ensuring a safe environment for all passengers.
- Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations among students while on the bus.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and any issues that may arise.
- Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel promptly.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings to stay updated on safety protocols and district policies.
- Complete necessary documentation, including route logs and incident reports, as required.
- Provide support during school events and field trips as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement and air brakes.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
- Previous experience driving a bus or similar vehicle preferred, but not required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with students and staff.
- Ability to manage student behavior and enforce safety protocols.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening as required by the school district.
- Availability to work early mornings, afternoons, and occasional evenings or weekends for special events.
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus but can be obtained upon hiring.

SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

if working a minimum 20 hours per week
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Applicants must be minimum 21 years old with at least 5 years driving experience.
• Ability to secure and maintain required licenses and certifications through the State of
Michigan (CDL with B, P, and S endorsements). All fees and training will be paid by the
District for qualified candidates, subject to continued successful employment.
• Must pass a physical examination including random drug testing, demonstrating
mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the requirements of the position.
• Ability to maintain order and safety among students on the bus, communicating clearly
and in a positive manner.
• Criminal background check including fingerprinting required.
Rate of Pay:
Per DESPA Contract
