Job Description

Special Education Job Coach/Instructional Aide for the 2026-2027 school year


 


This position requires a valid Illinois paraprofessional license.

Qualifications:



  1. Sixty (60) college credit or successful completion of teachers’ aid certification test.

  2. Interest in the field of education.

  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


 


Reports to: Department Chair of Special Education and Classroom Teacher
 


Job Summary:


 


This position involves assisting individuals with disabilities in the acquisition of work maturity skills necessary to obtain employment and independently maintain employment in the community.  Job Coaches provide ongoing support to students working at various employment sites within the community.  Support is individualized and based on work-related goals that focus on the student becoming as independent as possible.


 


Responsibilities:



  1. Consistently model appropriate work maturity skills and hold students to the same expectation.

  2. Monitor student performance, provide necessary documentation, and provide feedback  at a worksite identifying areas requiring additional training for maintaining employment according to program guidelines.

  3. Foster relationships with local employers while seeking out new employment opportunities for students.

  4. Counsel students in employment and career options assisting with application/ resume/ cover letter/ and interview practice when needed.

  5. Safely transport students, using a District vehicle, to the work site.

  6. Must possess school bus passenger permit on driver's license.

  7. Provide an analysis of on-the-job tasks and skills to create checklists if necessary.

  8. Participate in meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. community sponsored events, award ceremonies, career events, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remain knowledgeable of program guidelines.

  9. Address discipline issues and report if necessary to appropriate teachers and administrators.

  10. Be flexible to schedule changes, new development, and student needs.

  11. Work with large or small groups assisting the teacher in the classroom when not coaching in the community.
