Administers and directs the administering of physical agents utilized in physical medicine and rehabilitation services as prescribed by a physician.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide physical therapy services under the direction of a physician.
- Instruct, prepare, and reassure patient of treatment being performed.
- Review the diagnosis of patients, evaluate the patient’s condition, establish a plan of treatment, and perform discharge planning and re-evaluation.
- Apply appropriate physical agents, therapeutic exercises and ambulatory procedures, and informs the patient of the treatment process.
- Monitor and ensure patient safety during treatments.
- Transport patients to and from department in a safe manner.
- Provide care appropriate for the patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Assess and interpret data on the patient’s status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age specific needs and provide care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
- Monitor and direct assistants and aides in their duties supporting patient treatments.
- Assist with nursing home physical therapy needs as needed.
- Maintain records associated with patient's treatments.
- Record treatment results and progress notes accurately and legibly in patient charts.
- Communicate information to the director and physician on patient’s treatment progress as directed.
- Assist in maintaining logs, charge tickets, and reports.
- Assist in maintaining stock levels of supplies and required equipment.
- Ensure inventory is adequately stocked with supplies necessary for efficient operation.
- Perform the sterilization of equipment and work area.
- Perform minor and preventative maintenance on equipment and ensure equipment is properly stored after use.
- Report equipment problems to Rehabilitation Director.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
- Work well with other employees.
- Maintain confidentiality on a daily basis.
- Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
- Follow standard precautions when providing direct patient care.
