POSITION SUMMARY:



The Program Instructor at Camp Westwood YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. This is done through a variety of skill-based activities including to but not limited to archery/target sports, crafts, high adventure challenge, paddle sports, sailing, swimming, sports, teambuilding and service activities. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  1. To create a magical experience for everyone who comes to a YMCA program

  2. Ability to facilitate programs in the outdoors. We operate rain or shine, cold or hot. Staff should be prepared for New England weather.

  3. Facilitate incredible programming with a variety of guests from all backgrounds 

  4. Programs staff may need to facilitate, but are not limited to:

    1. Target sports, aquatics, high ropes challenge course, sports, crafts, teambuilding, biking, cooking and other.



  5. Plan and implement activates that are developmentally appropriate, safe, related to camp themes (as applicable), and engaging

  6. Be able to perform songs, skits and presentations

  7. Plan, prepare and assist with special events hosted by the camp.

  8. Maintain a positive relationship with staff, campers, and family members

  9. Work as a team through positive approach and clear communication with others

  10. Attend all required work shifts, staff trainings and meetings

  11. Assist with facility upkeep, cleanliness and maintenance to provide the best experience

  12. Provide active supervision and programs that exhibits high standards in cleanliness and preparation

  13. Upholds and exemplifies the YMCA values

  14. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor
