Job Description

Job Title: VARSITY FOOTBALL ASSISTANT COACH

Under the supervision of the East Grand Rapids High School (EGRHS) Athletic Director and the varsity football coach, the assistant varsity football coach is responsible for the duties assigned by the varsity football coach. The coach will develop individual and team skills and continue to build upon the “Tradition of Excellence” of the East Grand Rapids athletic program. The coach will work in collaboration with the varsity football coach to build fundamental skills and prepare athletes for competition. 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.)
  • Successful football coaching experience or college coaching/playing experience (preferred)             
  • Experience in providing direct supervision of student-athletes                     
  • Knowledge of MHSAA rules and regulations
  • CPR/AED certification or willingness and ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • First aid knowledge (preferred)

Essential Functions:    

  • Ability to effectively communicate and assist with implementing a football program that fulfills the role of interscholastic athletics in a high school setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example and develop professional, yet meaningful relationships with all stakeholders
  • Desire and ability to implement and sustain a culture of success and accountability that places student development and sportsmanship at the forefront of the program
  • Willingness to invest in creating a cooperative working relationship with players, parents, team boosters, fans, and the media
  • Ability to encourage student athletes to participate in football, and advocate for continued growth of the program throughout the community
  • Willingness and ability to be a team player who will encourage student-athletes to participate in multiple sports/extracurricular activities
  • Ability to provide input and assist the athletic director in scheduling contests
  • Ability to provide direct supervision of student-athletes under their care
  • Ability to plan and implement practices that build fundamental skills, and demonstrate an ability to adapt practices and drills to fit the differing levels of ability of student-athletes and teams
  • Willingness to work cooperatively with the strength and conditioning coordinator to implement an in-season training program
  • Willingness to learn on the job
  • Capability to maintain the inventory and storage of equipment and the care of facilities
  • Willingness to adhere to the processes and procedures as outlined in the East Grand Rapids Coaches handbook
  • Willingness to have a flexible time commitment  
  • Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
  • Ability to complete other duties as assigned      

Reports To: Athletic Director

Rate: Per Contract

Start Date: August 10, 2026

Deadline:  Until Filled

Duration: 1 Year (Renewable based on recommendation of the Athletic Director)
