    Job Title: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

    Position Summary

    The Director of Curriculum and Instruction provides strategic and visionary leadership and oversight for all Pre-K through 12th grade curriculum, instruction, and assessment, including the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive, high-quality instructional program.

    This position ensures the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a rigorous, aligned instructional program that supports high levels of student achievement for all learners. The Director leads key academic initiatives, including Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), gifted education, ESOL services, and professional learning, while promoting equitable and effective instructional practices across the district.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Curriculum and Instruction Leadership

    • Lead the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Pre-K�12 curriculum aligned to state standards and district goals
    • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum across grade levels and content areas
    • Oversee instructional best practices and promote research-based teaching strategies
    • Monitor and support the effective use of instructional resources and materials 

    Assessment and Data Use

    • Guide the development and implementation of district assessment systems
    • Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and continuous improvement
    • Support schools in using data to drive instruction and close achievement gaps 

    Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

    • Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of MTSS frameworks across all schools
    • Ensure effective tiered interventions and progress monitoring systems are in place
    • Collaborate with school leaders to support academic and behavioral interventions 

    Specialized Programs Oversight

    • Supervise and support programs for gifted learners to ensure rigor and enrichment opportunities
    • Oversee ESOL programming to ensure compliance and effective support for English learners
    • Ensure equitable access to high-quality instruction for all student groups 

    Professional Learning

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive professional learning plan aligned to district goals
    • Provide leadership in designing high-quality, job-embedded professional development
    • Support instructional coaching and leadership development across schools 

    Leadership and Collaboration

    • Work collaboratively with principals and district leaders to support instructional excellence
    • Lead curriculum committees and facilitate cross-functional teams
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding curriculum, instruction, and student outcomes 

    Compliance and Accountability

    • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to curriculum and specialized programs
    • Prepare reports and documentation as required by governing agencies
    • Stay informed on current educational trends, research, and best practices 

    Qualifications

    • Doctorate or Specialist degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field
    • Valid educational leadership certification (or eligibility)
    • Minimum of 5�7 years of successful classroom teaching experience
    • Prior leadership experience at the school or district level preferred
    • Strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment, and instructional best practices
    • Experience with data analysis and school improvement planning
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong understanding of curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices
    • Knowledge of MTSS frameworks, gifted education, and ESOL programming
    • Ability to analyze data and lead data-driven decision-making
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
    • Commitment to equity and continuous improvement 

    Work Environment

    • 12-month position
    • Regular travel between schools and district sites
    • Reports to the superintendent
    • Performs other duties as assigned
