PARAPROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Minimum Requirements (per NCLB Section 1119):
To be considered "Highly Qualified," applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Achieve a minimum score of 450 on the ParaPro Assessment,
OR - Complete 48 semester credit hours (equivalent to two years of full-time study) from a state-approved or regionally accredited college or university,
OR - Hold an Associate Degree (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S.) from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution.
If You Have College Credit Hours, You Must Include:
- 3 credit hours in English Composition
- 6 credit hours in English/Reading
- 6 credit hours in Mathematics

Once hired, you may be eligible to enroll in the District’s Paraprofessional to Certified Teacher Pathway through Reach University or Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC).
