JOB DESCRIPTION: TRANSPORTATION AIDE
DEPARTMENT: SUPPORT SERVICES
SUPERVISOR: ADMINISTRATOR
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely transport residents to scheduled medical appointments, therapy sessions, and facility-approved outings
Assist residents in and out of vehicles, including use of wheelchairs, walkers, and lifts as needed
Secure residents properly using seat belts, wheelchair tie-downs, and other safety devices
Ensure vehicles are clean, properly maintained, and fueled
Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
Maintain accurate transportation logs, including times, destinations, and resident information
Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding resident condition and transport needs
Report any changes in resident condition immediately to nursing staff
Follow infection control procedures during all transports
Ensure compliance with HIPAA by maintaining confidentiality of resident information
Adhere to all traffic laws and safe driving practices
Respond appropriately in emergency situations, including accidents or resident medical issues during transport
Assist with scheduling coordination as directed
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Experience working with elderly or disabled individuals preferred
CPR certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
Must be able to pass background check and drug screening per facility policy
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to safely operate facility vehicles, including vans equipped for wheelchair transport
Knowledge of safe transfer techniques
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations
Understanding of resident rights and dignity
Ability to follow directions and work independently
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds or more with assistance
Ability to assist with transferring residents
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and driving
Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching
WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
Interaction with residents who may have cognitive or physical impairments
Potential exposure to infectious diseases
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures
Must comply with federal, state, and local regulations
Must complete required in-service training and education
