Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: TRANSPORTATION AIDE 
DEPARTMENT: SUPPORT SERVICES 
SUPERVISOR: ADMINISTRATOR  

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Safely transport residents to scheduled medical appointments, therapy sessions, and facility-approved outings 

  • Assist residents in and out of vehicles, including use of wheelchairs, walkers, and lifts as needed 

  • Secure residents properly using seat belts, wheelchair tie-downs, and other safety devices 

  • Ensure vehicles are clean, properly maintained, and fueled 

  • Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections 

  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, including times, destinations, and resident information 

  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding resident condition and transport needs 

  • Report any changes in resident condition immediately to nursing staff 

  • Follow infection control procedures during all transports 

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA by maintaining confidentiality of resident information 

  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safe driving practices 

  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations, including accidents or resident medical issues during transport 

  • Assist with scheduling coordination as directed 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record 

  • Experience working with elderly or disabled individuals preferred 

  • CPR certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe) 

  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screening per facility policy 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to safely operate facility vehicles, including vans equipped for wheelchair transport 

  • Knowledge of safe transfer techniques 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations 

  • Understanding of resident rights and dignity 

  • Ability to follow directions and work independently 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds or more with assistance 

  • Ability to assist with transferring residents 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and driving 

  • Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions 

  • Interaction with residents who may have cognitive or physical impairments 

  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases 

 

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures 

  • Must comply with federal, state, and local regulations 

  • Must complete required in-service training and education
