Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, serve independently or alongside the facilities staff to perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance functions in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment. This 12-month GA position is available to those pursuing post-graduate studies at Bob Jones University.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Sustaining campus appearance and cleanliness through proper techniques and attention to detail
  • Reporting and responding to emergency calls for custodial assistance
  • Identifying areas of need and responding with appropriate supplies/equipment
  • Performing preventative maintenance in and around facilities
  • Maintaining assigned equipment including: buffers, vacuums, mops, brooms, etc. . . .
  • Following instructions regarding use of chemicals and supplies
  • Maintaining general tasks including:
    • Floor maintenance (sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, etc.)
    • Restroom upkeep (cleaning according to established procedures and replenishing paper products)
    • Trash and recycling disposal in accordance with established procedures
  • Facilitating open communication with managers and other coworkers, reporting essential details or concerns when necessary
  • Being an appropriate steward of assigned facility by performing any other tasks appointed 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. 
  • Capacity to effectively accomplish assigned cleaning duties independently or in a team setting
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper cleaning techniques
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn hazards and safety methods related to custodial operations
  • Physical and mental capabilities in the following areas: interpersonal skills, attention to detail, following directions, memory and comprehension, evaluating, and organizing
  • Ability to navigate Microsoft Excel and Word
