Purpose



Under the general direction of the Casting Supervisor, the Holding Operator is responsible for the safe operation of all Holding Furnaces, while providing a quality product to fulfill the customer’s demands.



NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION



Perform a variety of routine duties to operate and charge continuous casting equipment, with prescribed mix of molten metal, ingot and scrap to obtain a specified alloy.  Must be able to operate melting and holding furnaces to maintain a specified flow of molten metal to the casting operations following prescribed methods and procedures.



 



Job Responsibilities




  • Follow plant safety rules and environmental policies, and attend required meetings.  Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and environmental hazards to supervisor.

  • Relieve the caster operator for breaks and lunch.

  • Maintain accurate records.

  • Set up and operate equipment as required and enter data into PCS (computer system).

  • Clean, repair and inspect the furnaces as required.

  • Monitor and detect faulty operations of equipment and defective material and initiate corrective action requests.  Refer questionable cases to supervisor.

  • Maintain work area, machine tools, and equipment in a clean, organized manner.

  • Follow standard quality and performance requirements.

  • Other related duties as assigned.
