Preconstruction Manager 

Hybrid | New England Region 
Reports to: Director of Preconstruction

Position Summary 

The Preconstruction Manager leads projects during the design and planning phase, ensuring predictable and successful outcomes before construction begins. Acting as the primary preconstruction lead, this role partners closely with owners, architects, engineers, estimators, and internal teams to deliver projects aligned with client goals for cost, schedule, quality, and constructability. 

This position focuses on strong execution, proactive risk management, and seamless transition into construction. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Lead the Preconstruction Process 

  • Develop and execute detailed preconstruction work plans in partnership with the Director of Preconstruction and Project Executives 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during the design phase 
  • Lead preconstruction meetings and coordinate internal and external stakeholders 
  • Provide cost, scheduling, logistics, risk mitigation, coordination, and constructability guidance to owners and design teams 
  • Ensure project designs align with owner objectives and approved budgets 
  • Support Target Value Design, Lean practices, and Choosing by Advantages processes 

 

Risk & Schedule Management 

  • Identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies 
  • Monitor design progress against schedule milestones 
  • Proactively communicate impacts to cost, schedule, or scope 
  • Ensure smooth transition from preconstruction to the construction project management team 

 

Financial Oversight 

  • Track preconstruction budgets and forecast costs against proposal 
  • Coordinate monthly applications for payment for preconstruction services 
  • Identify scope changes and manage add service documentation 
  • Work with accounting and leadership to monitor cost performance 

 

Subcontractor & Delivery Support 

  • Generate early subcontractor interest during design 
  • Coordinate design-assist and design-build packages 
  • Support public bidding requirements as applicable 
  • Collaborate with estimating and purchasing teams throughout the design phase 

 

Business Development & Continuous Improvement 

  • Support proposal development and interviews 
  • Contribute to internal standards, best practices, and process improvements 
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, designers, and trade partners 

 

Qualifications 

  • 7–10 years of construction management experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) 
  • Strong working knowledge of estimating, scheduling, and purchasing 
  • Solid understanding of construction materials and building systems 
  • Experience with CMAR and/or Design-Build delivery methods preferred 
  • Strong planning, organization, and risk management skills 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication abilities

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$130,000 depending on skills and experience.  Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity. We’re committed to fair and transparent pay practices for all employees.
