Admissions Staff (2nd Shift)

Department/Location: Admissions Department, New Bedford
Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent (GED), associates' preferred
Pay Rate: $22-$27/hr (Education & experience dependent)
Status: Full-time 2nd Shift 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM (M-F) plus every other weekend

High Point has programs located throughout Southeastern Massachusetts offering a full continuum of care for substance use and mental health treatment, including inpatient, outpatient, residential, and community-based services. Admissions Staff Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to requests relative to admissions inquires
  • Enters all fields as available in the preadmission screen and intake assessment
  • Verifies eligibility and benefits with appropriate insurance carrier(s)
  • Obtain faxes in according with HPHAO policy prior to admission
  • Obtain approval for admission from appropriate staff member (if applicable)
  • Schedule approved admissions according to HPHAO policy/procedures
  • Scan all necessary paperwork and distribute accordingly
  • Schedules patient in bed management and monitors bed management for vacant beds
  • Make appropriate referrals to other agencies, when necessary
  • Assist staff/patients in event of emergency
  • Remain informed of current information concerning HPHAO polices/procedures
  • Notifies supervisor of any significant event and/or information which concerns the admissions department
  • Maintain clean and orderly work environment
  • Assists in orientation of new employees
  • Ability to respond to TTY
  • Completes preadmission screening and schedules clients admission (if appropriate)
  • Consults with Admissions Director/Admissions Manager/Nurse Manager/Site
  • Director, and/ or designees with regards to concerns with case consults/referrals for admissions that require further collaboration regarding potential admissions
  • Utilize standard precautions at all times
  • Demonstrates behaviors that recognize the rights of patients/clients as defined by the patient’s right
  • Attend all departmental/organizational meetings as directed by Supervisor
  • Attend mandatory training
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)

Admissions Staff Requirements

  • Must present as courteous and professional at all times
  • Possess good telephone manner
  • Demonstrates flexibility and ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas in logical and clear fashion
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs including the ability to learn, use and train HPAHO`s electronic medical records
  • Must have the ability to work with others in cooperative and collaborative manner
  • An understanding of the relationship between substance use and mental health issues and/or self-help programs
  • An understanding of boundaries and ethics
  • Comply with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Alcohol Abuse Policy and HIPAA Regulations
  • TB screening
  • Certification in the HPHAO approved de-escalation program

Admissions Staff Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Candidates must have strong computer skills
  • Experience with insurance verification, mental health and substance use disorders a plus
