Job Description

Machinist (2nd Shift) position available with +$3 shift differential.

The Machinist sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. Additional duties may include fitting and assembling machined parts into complete assemblies. This is a mid-level to senior level direct labor position with the capability to perform machining tasks with minimal direction and supervision.

The Machinist is assigned machining and associated tasks by the Working Foreman for Tooling and Fabrication. This position routinely applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, maintainability and strength of materials, and layout techniques.

This is an onsite, full-time position with the opportunity of professional growth across our corporate organization. This position is located at our Cookeville, TN location and reports directly to the Business Unit Manager.

How You'll Contribute

  • Analyze drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances
  • Set and control machine factors.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories.
  • Machine and grind parts to specification.
  • Verify conformance of parts to specification using precision measuring instruments.
  • Fit and assemble components.
  • Operate CNC machines as well as conventional machining centers.
  • Heat treat machined parts on occasion.
  • Operate welding equipment on occasion.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Operate efficiently in a team environment and individually.
  • Positive professional and personal demeanor.
  • Ability to think clearly, quickly and make concise decisions with strong problem solving and math skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Formal trade school certificate is preferred.
  • 4+ years of machining experience.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Near acuity with or without accommodation.
  • HEARING Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose.

Working Environment

  • High noise levels.
  • Physical hazards such as operating machinery.
  • Inhalation of fumes, dust and mist.
  • Absorption exposure to oil and fluids.
