Job Description

JOB TITLE: EMS Flight Base Manager (Paramedic or RN)

DEPARTMENT: EMS First Flight of Wyoming

REPORTS TO: EMS Director



JOB SUMMARY

The Base Manager provides operational management of the First Flight of Wyoming medical transport system, which includes remote base of operations and covers a multi-state region. The scope of responsibilities includes strategic planning, business development, community relations, regulatory and aviation compliance, assuring excellent patient care, and meeting safety standards. The Base Manager is charged with the operational integration of clinical care, aviation, and dispatch/communications functions.



To provide optimum critical/emergency care for sick or injured patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to and from medical facilities in the region.



JOB REQUIREMENTS




  • Currently licensed as a Wyoming EMT-Paramedic and National Registry Paramedic or Wyoming State Registered Nurse.

  • Montana State Licensed Registered Nurse or Paramedic-NREMT within 12 months of hire

  • Ability to successfully perform all duties within applicant scope inside confined spaces with no limitations.

  • Ability to successfully pass physical agility and endurance assessment with no limitations upon hire, and annually as needed.

  • Must maintain weight to fit into the seat belts/shoulder harness as provided by the aircraft manufacturer without modification to those safety devices.

  • Crew weight restriction is 225 pounds fully dressed at time of hire and must maintain within this requirement at all times.

  • Clean shaven at all time



EXPERIENCE

Required: Minimum of 3 years ALS, critical care experience as a flight/ground transport paramedic/nurse. Minimum of 3 years of flight experience. Minimum of 2 years Supervisor/management experience.



Preferred: Minimum of 5 years ALS critical care experience as a flight/ground transport paramedic.

  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills are necessary.

  • Effective computer and keyboarding skills.

  • Must have ability to learn and use Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Outlook.

  • Ability to learn new computer software applications.

  • EMS communications (Radios) and familiarization with EMS systems.

  • Familiarity with extrication devices and rescue operations.

  • General aircraft safety.

  • Survival training/techniques/equipment that is pertinent to the environment/geographic coverage area of the medical service.

  • Human Factors – Crew Resource Management – AMRM (Air Medical Resource Management).

  • Stress recognition and management/resilience.

  • Recognizes signs of fatigue.

  • Safety and risk management training.

  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies.

  • Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care for inter-facility and scene transports.

  • Ability to withstand exposure to noise, external weather conditions, and work in high altitudes.



REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Required:




  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) – within 12 months of hire

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – within 12 months of hire

  • FEMA 100/200/700/800 – within 6 months of hire

  • Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C) if paramedic - within 24 months of hire

  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) if nurse – within 24 months of hire

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) if nurse – within 12 months of hire

  • Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE) – within 36 months of hire



Preferred:




  • Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)

  • Certification in Critical Care Emergency Transport Program (CCEMTP)

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) audit or Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC)
