Job Description

FLSA:Non-Exempt


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


Must be mechanically inclined in the areas of vehicle repair
Must be physically capable of performing strenuous work
Must have a current chauffeur class license and obtain a type A or B Commercial
Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months


 


REPORTS TO: Shop Manager/Foreman/Mechanic I


 


JOB GOAL: To assist mechanics in their performance of direct maintenance and repair support to the bus fleet and other designated vehicles owned by the Rapides Parish School
Board


 


SALARY: Non-Certified Salary Schedule SB-103


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform designated minor maintenance as directed by supervisor.
2. Assist Manager/Mechanic with repairs on all board-owned buses
3. Assist Manager/Mechanic with repairs on all board-owned vehicles
4. Make necessary adjustments as designated by supervisor
5. Assist in removing major assemblies
6. Assist in bus inspections according to state safety requirements
7. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
8. Maintain written records as required and directed
9. Follow Rapides Parish School Board policies
10. Perform any other duties assigned


 


PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work assignments require incumbent to frequently lift, carry, stoop, bend, crawl, stretch, climb, stand, and occasionally work on equipment or parts in hard to reach places. Lifting of items up to 40 to 50 pounds in weight is often required and occasionally, heavier items are moved by pushing, pulling, or lifting with others.


 


WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee is frequently exposed to cuts, bruises, scrapes, strains, burns, etc. Work is performed inside and outside on hard surfaces with exposures to dust, grease, drafts, fumes, changing temperatures, etc. Some work may also be performed on equipment with exposure to fluids such as oil, acid, etc. Employee must adhere to prescribed best practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devises and hard-toe shoes.
