Job Summary

Purpose of Position:

Student Ambassadors at the Delaware Campus and Regional Learning Centers help with the college’s student retention efforts through current and prospective student events. The goal is for Student Ambassadors to help students remove barriers to persistence and to reinforce success-oriented behaviors that lead to certificate and degree completion.

This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.

This position will begin Autumn semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Ambassadors will:

1) Hold weekly office hours and serve as a campus liaison to help students one-on-one with navigating college processes, developing time management and study skills, and accessing campus, community and service-learning resources.

2) Connect students to campus and community resources such as: Campus Cupboards, Mid-Ohio Market, applying for federal programs etc.

3) Provide content and represent Columbus State Delaware Campus through social media: Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. 
 

4) Provide campus tours to campus visitors and assists with Student Services events (NSO, Orientation, Open House, Delaware Day, Woodward).
 

5) Serve as Columbus State student representative at events and practices professionalism both on and off campus. 
 

6) Contribute to campus life by demonstrating sincerity, enthusiasm, credibility, interest, and helpfulness.
 

7) Attend trainings, workshops, and monthly meetings. 
 

8) Conduct outreach activities to inform students of college deadlines and events to promote and support retention.
 

9) Create and engage with Student Engagement Events and department programming. 

10) Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.

 

11) Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

 

12) Work a consistent, reliable schedule and exhibits regular and punctual attendance.

13) Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: Columbus State campus, programs, services, and opportunities for student engagement. Must be interested in learning about college and community resources for referrals.

Skill in: Student Ambassadors need to possess strong leadership abilities, empathetic and active listening and communication skills, an aptitude for problem solving and group work, comfort with public speaking, an ability to work with diverse populations, and the motivation to learn and help others in the Columbus State community.

Ability to: Operate a computer (including fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office). Must be able to navigate Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Minimum/General Qualifications:

This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.

Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.

Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.

Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.

Schedule:

TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Evening or weekend hours may be available depending on events and programming.

Maximum 20 hours per week.

Work will be performed: On-Site.

Position Specific Qualifications:

Position may support events and programming at Dublin RLC and Delaware Campus and must have transportation to get to either location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applicants who are available for employment the full academic year 
  • Applicants who have successfully completed a least one recent (within the last two years) semester at Columbus State
  • Experience using social media 
  • Experiences engaging in service, working with others, or taking on leadership roles

The program consists of brief, structured conversations between supervisor and student to reflect on and integrate what they are learning. All student employees and their functional supervisors participate in this program during Autumn and Spring semesters.

Career and Leadership Development Program (CLDP)

The program consists of paid competency-based career and leadership development activities designed by Career Services. All Tier/Level III positions are automatically enrolled in this program.
