About the Department

The purpose of this position is to engage in activities such as maintenance, repair, and renovation of City buildings; plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and masonry; sign painting; repair and maintenance of equipment; maintenance of airport grounds and facilities; and maintenance of storeroom inventory records.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Position Duties

The job duties/responsibilities listed below are those that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Operates power mowers, weed eaters, edger’s, clippers, chain saws, pole saws, demo saws and other hand tools used in municipal maintenance.
• Maintains municipal grounds by mowing, cleaning drainage ditches, installing fences and guard rails, cutting trees, and laying sod.
• Performs minor repairs incidental to building operations. Builds, pours, forms and finishes concrete; patches potholes.
• Maintains stock of cleaning supplies and restock as needed.
• Operates light trucks.
• Clean and restore job site to original condition.  This may include placing sod, raking and other landscape type duties. 
• Work as a member of a repair and/or maintenance crew as directed.
• Operate, clean and general maintenance of City vehicles and equipment as directed.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience in facility and grounds maintenance or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess (or obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire) and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

• Physical Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Duties:
  The position performs moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. The employee is required to walk, climb, stand, stoop, dig, and must be able to lift, push and move up to 50 lbs. and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Specific vision abilities this job requires include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to wear gloves, safety glasses, goggles, a respirator, and safety shoes/boots. The applicant will have frequent exposure to dust, mist, vapors, gases, heat, cold, fumes, toxins, traffic, explosives, blood-borne pathogens, drugs, poisons, loud noise, toxic metals, and other hazards not listed.
