Job Description

Job Summary

The Media Specialist assists in the planning, promotion, support, and coordination of City communications and events. This position plays an important role in ensuring successful operations, engaging residents, and promoting a positive community experience.

Working under the supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Media Specialist supports public events, communication efforts, customer service, and departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities

City Events

  • Assist with coordination and support of City events, including Impact Fair, Bunny Hop Egg Drop, Earth Day, Bike Month, Movies in the Park, Independence Day, Patriot Day, Boo-A-Palooza, and the Tree Lighting Ceremony
  • Provide on-site event support including setup, logistics coordination, and breakdown

Communications & Media

  • Assist with City communication efforts, promotional materials, and public outreach
  • Support social media content creation, scheduling, and analytics
  • Assist with graphic design and media projects using platforms such as Canva and Adobe Suite

Administrative & Customer Service Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for City-sponsored events
  • Respond to inquiries, concerns, and complaints by phone, email, and in person
  • Maintain department records, prepare reports, and support administrative functions
  • Assist the Parks & Recreation team with program and event delivery
  • Support the Administrative Director with daily operations, reporting, and special projects

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

AND

  • Two (2) years of experience in administration, recreation, event coordination, marketing, or related field
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Office administration and recordkeeping
  • Event coordination principles and logistics
  • Customer service best practices
  • Social media platforms and analytics
  • Graphic design and media tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.)
  • Professional communication and English grammar

Skills in:

  • Organization and time management
  • Public communication and interpersonal relations
  • Coordinating multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to:

  • Exercise sound judgment and work independently
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Work evenings and weekends for meetings and events
  • Build positive working relationships with staff and the public

Work Environment

This position includes both office and outdoor work settings. Duties may involve standing, walking, lifting, bending, and other physical activities associated with events and recreation programming. Evening and weekend work is required.
