Position Summary
The CNC Operator is responsible for operating computer-controlled machinery to produce custom wood components, including doors, jambs, cutouts, and display pieces. This role is vital to ensuring that each product meets precise design specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings attention to detail, comfort with digital interfaces, and the flexibility to assist across multiple production areas as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties
- Set up and operate CNC equipment to manufacture wood components according to job specifications, CAD drawings, and work orders.
- Interpret and follow technical documents such as production picks, templates, and engineered prints.
- Conduct quality checks throughout the production process and record inspection data accurately.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC machinery, including tool changes and bit replacements.
- Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized workstation.
Support Functions
While CNC operation is the primary responsibility, this role also includes cross-training on other advanced woodworking machines to support broader production needs:
- Learn and assist with the use of additional equipment for shaping, modifying, or finishing wood components.
- Support tasks involving custom cutting and machining of doors or panels to meet customer requirements.
- Partner with production support staff to ensure accurate documentation and flow of job materials.
- Help with unloading, organizing, and storing materials to support shop efficiency.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating CNC machinery, preferably in woodworking or manufacturing.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, templates, and technical documentation.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to work with machine interface systems.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to manage priorities, and commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred
- Experience with AlphaCAM or other CNC programming software.
- Background in wood products manufacturing or similar trade environments.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement practices.
