Child Minding Volunteer - Children, Family and Community Service

Are you a caring and compassionate person willing to provide childcare support to children?

If you said yes to these questions, then we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for YOU!

 

To provide child minding support to the Child and Youth Care Program, children and clients with caring volunteers who can provide a sense of belonging, build healthy relationships and provide meaningful experiences for the children, ages 0 to 17, in a safe, welcoming, and supervised environment.  The ideal volunteer will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong work skills, and a commitment  to developing positive supporting relationships. 

 

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Provide an atmosphere where children may play safely in a supervised environment
  • Monitor and supervise children ensuring their well-being and safety
  • Engage children in age appropriate and interesting activities while caring for them
  • Notify staff immediately when there are concerns with behavioral and/or medical l issues involving the children
  • Inform Program staff about resource needs, concerns or problems, in a timely manner
  • Adhere to the Agency’s Code of Volunteer Conduct and Agency policies and protocols

 

Desired Skills/Abilities:

  • Prior experience caring for children
  • Knowledge about age-appropriate activities for children at different levels of development
  • Ability to display good judgement in providing age appropriate childcare
  • Established interpersonal skills
  • Ability to redirect and problem solve
  • Strong personal boundaries, child focused and maturity
  • Team focused with excellent communication
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to work as a team with excellent communication
  • Understands and can model positive relationship boundaries
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification preferred
