Job Description
TITLE: K-5 Reading Intervention Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
Work Year: 181 days
Salary: TBD Teacher Salary Scale
Evaluator: Principal as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Professional Educator License teaching certificate
2. Reading Teacher Endorsement
3. Willing to learn, acquire and apply new skills and knowledge
4. Strong organizational skills
5. Strong skills in interpersonal relations with colleagues, administrators, and parents
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
7. Strong problem-solving skills
8. Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in literacy or educational leadership
2. 4+ years supervisory experience
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide literacy intervention to elementary children by the implementation of a research-based model.
The scope of responsibilities of an effective interventionist includes providing demonstrations of the
effective instruction and practices in the areas of English Language Arts; working strategically with
teachers in planning, monitoring, and assessing their teaching for student learning; implementing effective
literacy practices; conducting pre- and post-conferences with students, including constructive feedback;
and teaching intervention group(s) for reading and writing daily.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Implement intervention groups across the grade levels dependent on the needs of the students.
2. Collect, analyze and synthesize student data as a basis for instruction.
3. Demonstrate effective implementation of intervention strategies.
4. Participate in appropriate professional development required of teachers/intervention
specialists.
5. Communicate with parents, classroom teachers, Reading Recovery teachers and other school
personnel on a regular basis throughout the school year.
6. Attend and facilitate grade level, intervention and department meetings as requested.
7. Organize and participate in HELPs/Intervention meetings as needed.
8. Contribute to the development of the School Improvement Team to monitor literacy progress.
9. Submit data as requested (ie Teacher Leader, Instructional Coach, and/or Principal)
10. Prompts the school and district through positive relations with the community, business, parents
and students.
11. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
