Job Description

Support production activities

  • Provide timely response to production problems
  • Provide direction to optimize cycle time, uptime, yield, costs, capacity, and MRO expenditures
  • Lead engineering group to remove production barriers (downtime items, process and systems problems)

 

New equipment, tooling, and systems designed and implemented into production

  • Provide direction for equipment, tools, processes, and systems design to product lines. Direct staff to write specifications to best define process and equipment needs & requirements
  • Direct equipment and process qualification efforts to assure the BEST incoming production equipment
  • Have group lead manufacturing area layout efforts for new equipment
  • Direct development of DCP and act as lead for launch phases as required
  • Provide accurate and timely estimates in Capital, Tooling, Expense, and Timing for product changes and/or new products

 

Cost reduction in labor, scrap and MRO

  • Provide direction for cost reduction efforts through clear goal setting (annually), and review of processes, tooling, methods, layout, departmental performance (scrap/MRO/OEE, etc.), cost reduction meetings, and active improvement efforts

 

Management objectives met

  • Provide resources to Production Supervisors to support all team efforts
  • Timely, accurate, and professional communications with all in-plant and external personnel
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and departmental training efforts

 

 

Ensure department operating parameters/budget objectives are met

 

 

  • Employees to be supplied with job key elements and trained to perform job functions to acceptable levels
  • Supervise and coordinate activity of Test and Manufacturing Engineers for facility.  Allocate manpower needs for special projects as required
  • Specific job assignments or direction to be made as needed.  Periodic meetings to be held to assess progress towards assignments and to counsel and correct job performance deficiencies or address personal skill needs
  • Detailed performance appraisals to be completed for all salaried subordinates at prescribed frequencies
  • All assignments to be completed at the least possible man-hour costs
  • Qualifications for new hires or internal promotions to be developed as appropriate
  • Scrap, general supply, equipment, and travel costs to be kept at minimal levels necessary to meet departmental needs. Departmental budget to be established and met.  Cost reduction activities to be effectively supported in prescribed time frames
  • Promote decision making and pro-activity

  • Provide direction and support for compliance to the Solero Quality System.  Assure automotive industry system and specific customer requirements are met.  Assure that subordinates have full understanding of quality system requirements
  • Provide direction and support for Quality activities.  Maintain effective communications to assure that adequate support is provided in required time frames
  • Stay abreast of quality control and continuous improvement technology.  Best practices to be established and implemented
  • Provide direction and guidance for manufacturing and support departments
  • All company and customer records to be maintained per quality system requirements
  • Assure product launch requirements are met and procedures followed
  • Assure that Product Control Plans and work instructions are developed, updated, and distributed as required
  • Assure product testing requirements are on time, accurate, and complete

Continuous Improvement achieved; customer satisfaction measured and improved

 

  • Lead and/or support Continuous Improvement activities with appropriate personnel and participation.  Proactively identify areas and opportunities to apply CI and cost management methods in systems and processes.  Implement measures and feedback to verify results are obtained
  • Assure positive and timely customer communications and effective relations are established to address product quality improvements and corrective actions when required
  • Customer-focused culture to be developed and maintained.  Participate in periodic visits to customer sites to show commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Track and report progress on established metrics in support of overall plant goals
  • Product/Process capability indices for significant, safety, or emissions characteristics to be tracked for continuous improvement
  • Direct and guide subordinates in problem solving activities. Lead use of statistical problem solving and D.O.E.

  • All plant, company, and departmental policies and procedures to be followed as stated
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of site safety and health goals, objectives, rules and procedures; actively participate in a safety engagement team, as well as follow all EHS rules, procedures and policies

  • All assigned areas to be kept clean and orderly

 

Training and Education

  • Utilize Performance Management System to define/update performance and development objectives in a timely fashion and provide feedback to employees on an ongoing basis
  • Work with employees and HR to identify most value-added, cost-effective training opportunities to address employees’ training needs and performance objectives
  • Ensure training goals are met in a timely fashion
  • Serve as coach and delegate accountability to engineering team
  • Provide team support & training to techs & maintenance personnel as needed
  • Complete training as needed

POSITION INFORMATION

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline, Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, or Business preferred; MBA a plus
  • 8 years Manufacturing and/or Supervisory experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of Manufacturing and Quality principals, methodologies and systems (APQP, FMEA, PPAP, MSA, SPC, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving methodologies, etc.
  • Project management experience
  • Above average computer skills in MS Office
