Job Description

About the Department

This is a temporary, as-needed, hourly position performing sub-professional recreational work in monitoring and supervising designated recreation programs(s) and instructing in a variety of recreational activities. The position reports to the Recreation Manager or their designee.

Position Duties

  1. Performs clerical functions in registering applicants, posting notices, etc.
  2. Assists in developing sports teams for various youth program.
  3. Assists in developing youth and adult sports schedules and activities. 
  4. Maintains various sports equipment as necessary.
  5. Monitors sports officials and coaches during practices and games.
  6. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
  7. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge of various recreation activities and programs.
  2. Knowledge of programs and activities.
  3. Ability to meet and converse with the public both in person and over the phone.
  4. Ability to plan, organize, and carry out daily activities as well as special programs.
  5. Administrative, Organizational and safety skills.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Currently enrolled in High school or High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  2. Some recreation and/ or athletics experience.
 
(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
 
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
  1. Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
 
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
  1. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  2. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  4. Standing, walking.
  5. Driving.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  1. Works inside and outside in various weather conditions.
