Open the Door to Your Future with Clopay Corporation & CornellCookson

At Clopay Corporation, we are more than just North America’s largest residential and commercial garage door manufacturer—we are a powerhouse of innovation, safety, and design. Through our premier brands, we lead the industry in providing groundbreaking high-performance closure solutions for both the places people call home and the spaces where the world does business.

Headquartered in Mason, Ohio, and operating state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Troy, Ohio, Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, and Goodyear, Arizona, we are a proud American-owned company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Griffon Corporation. Our reach extends across 55+ distribution centers and thousands of retail locations in the U.S. and Canada ensuring that we deliver the right door for every opening – from homes to businesses and beyond.

By joining our team, you become part of a legacy that blends the residential elegance of Clopay, known as "America’s Favorite Garage Doors," with the industrial strength and 180-year heritage of our rolling brands, Cornell and Cookson.  Together, we secure everything from family garages to the world's most iconic stadiums and skyscrapers.

We currently have an opening for a New Product Development Mechanical Engineer in our Mason, Ohio location.  Responsibilities include:

Spearhead Full-Cycle Design & Innovation

  • Become the customer's advocate: Go beyond the blueprints to build deep, firsthand expertise on our customers, their day-to-day challenges, and the competitive market landscape.
  • Drive the conceptualization and design of new parts and complete systems for cutting-edge sectional and coiling overhead doors.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams through our Phase Gate process, owning the journey from initial idea to full market release.
  • Partner with Strategic Marketing to translate your market intelligence and customer insights into tangible engineering requirements—from critical function to modern aesthetics.
  • Present and communicate your designs and ideas clearly to all stakeholders, from shop associates to the executive team.

Be a Hands-On Builder & Problem-Solver

  • Move your designs off the screen and into reality by working directly with technicians to build, assemble, and test engineering prototypes.
  • Interact directly with our manufacturing teams, ensuring your designs are not just innovative but also scalable and production-ready.
  • Validate your designs against rigorous structural and life safety codes (ASCE, IBC, UL, etc.) through expert engineering evaluations and calculations.

Master the Engineering Ecosystem

  • Utilize Autodesk Inventor to create and lay out detailed part and assembly drawings.
  • Go beyond single-use designs by developing core engineering standards and calculations for infinitely variable designs, and implement them directly into our ERP system.
  • Manage the final implementation of new products via the engineering change order (ECO) process and create the crystal-clear installation instructions our customers will use.

To excel in this role, you’re not just an engineer—you’re a designer, a leader, and a hands-on builder. Here's the foundation we're looking for:

  • Engineering & Design Acumen: A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus at least 5 years of professional experience.
  • 3D Modeling Virtuosity: You are fluent in 3D modeling and can build complex parts and assemblies from the ground up.
  • Full-Cycle Knowledge: You have a deep understanding of the entire process, from project management and product development to the fabrication methods that make a design viable.
  • Hands-On Mentality: You're proficient with hand tools and basic power tools, ready to jump in and help build the prototypes you've designed.
  • Inspirational Communicator: You possess excellent communication skills and a proven talent for leading cross-functional teams, with the ability to masterfully explain complex, 3D mechanical systems to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
