- The principal utilizes our mission, vision, and core values in the general operation of the school and the administration, supervision, and evaluation of students, professional personnel, and support staff. The principal is responsible for the development and support of policies and practices that enable every student at Harrison Middle School Yarmouth to develop a sense of belonging. The principal is directly responsible to the Superintendent and collaborates with other administrators in the development and evaluation of the educational program and our school improvement plan.
- Establish and implement operational policies, procedures, and practices which will promote the vision, mission and core values of the Yarmouth Schools.
- Provides effective leadership in the development and implementation of the building and district school improvement plan.
- Works collaboratively with team leaders and learning area leaders to ensure that the essential learnings and assessments are based upon Maine's Learning Results.
- Ensures that staff development days, flex time, release days, and other similar opportunities or activities which are compatible with our school improvement plan.
- Communicates progress on the building and district school improvement plan to the community.
- Creates a school environment in which staff, students and parents can develop a sense of trust, participation, understanding and productive interaction.
- Assumes responsibility for the establishment of a student code of conduct based on the mission and core values of the Yarmouth schools.
- Evaluates the performance of all professional personnel and support staff.
- Encourages staff involvement with the Southern Maine Partnership, Casco Bay Educational Alliance, and other similar networking opportunities.
- Interviews professional and support staff in collaboration with other staff members and parents and makes recommendations to the superintendent.
- Assumes responsibility for recommendations regarding student academic achievement by reviewing student grade cards, standardized testing, and the results of local assessments.
- Assumes responsibility for the effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning and ensures that our web site remains current and inviting.
- Prepares and recommends an annual budget.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of textbooks, supplies, equipment, and furniture within the building.
- Consults with individual students and with groups of students pertinent to school issues and decision making.
- Administers the daily organization of the school including student scheduling, teacher assignments and various student services and activities.
- Establishes effective communication opportunities with community and parent organizations.
- Participates regularly on the system-wide administrative leadership team and other K-12 teams.
- Works with other school principals to ensure appropriate transition from Yarmouth Elementary School and Yarmouth High School.

- Interacts effectively with Community Services, mentors, and Clipper Friends in scheduling building activities.
- Interprets School Committee policies to teachers, students, and parents and assists in making recommendations for new policies where changes are needed.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as directed by the Superintendent or as otherwise mandated by Maine State Law.

- Assists the K-12 Facilitator of School Improvement in developing grants and other opportunities for alternative funding.
