DESCRIPTION

At  Oasis at Oneonta we count on personal care assistants to gently and capably meet the needs of our clients, providing a level of care that exceeds expectations. We’re seeking an experienced personal care assistant who can be a companion who seems like family, providing their clients with not only trustworthy care but also a lifestyle with new possibilities. Whether assisting with the effects of aging, a recovery from surgery, or an occasional errand, the personal care assistant will serve as an invaluable support person in a variety of scenarios. Our clients often need someone to bathe them, help them dress, and make sure they eat healthy meals. The ideal candidate will be able to handle any of these circumstances with a gentle touch and a cheerful attitude.

Objectives of this role

  • Help clients remain engaged and enriched — mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally — with required assistance

  • Perform assigned duties in an accurate and timely manner, and demonstrate flexibility in meeting the needs of clients

  • Safeguard clients by observing their interactions, procedures, and activities

  • Be aware of and sensitive to each client’s pain, mobility, and fragility, and approach every interaction with compassion

  • Adhere to company standards, policies, and procedures, as well as legal rules and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal activities such as bathing, oral hygiene, preparing and consuming meals, dressing and undressing, and ambulation

    Medication Administration

  • Report to a supervisor or case coordinator any changes in a client’s physical condition, behavior, or appearance 

  • Solve routine client problems, promote healthy lifestyle habits, and provide general companionship and advice

  • Document the services delivered to clients, in accordance with company policies and procedures

Required skills and qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One or more years of experience as a caregiver

  • Certification in first aid and CPR

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Excellent judgment and proven discretion in handling confidential informatio

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Experience in caring for people who have dementia or Alzheimer’s diseas

  • Professional certification such as PCA or HHA
