SCOPE OF THE POSITION

We are looking for a Learning and Development Manager who is excited to step into a newly created role and will own and shape the learning ecosystem, by designing and delivering learning experiences that support both frontline employees and leaders at all levels, and partnering closely with Regional HR and Managers to create onboarding experiences that set employees up for long-term success.


This is a highly visible role with real influence, ideal for someone who enjoys building things from the ground up and working closely with business leaders.

 

The Learning & Development Manager plays a critical role meeting our people goals as part of ConeTec’s 2030 Vision, collaboratively building and consolidating existing programs to develop leaders, strengthen field capability and support employee growth and performance from day one.   This new role reports to the Vice President, Human Resources, and leads ConeTec’s Learning and Development function.   

 

ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

 

Design Impactful Learning Programs 

  • Build and deliver learning and development programs aligned to ConeTec’s business, safety, and performance goals 
  • Create structured learning pathways that support career growth across technical, field, and leadership roles 
  • Continuously evolve programs based on feedback, business needs, and workforce data 

 

Develop Inclusive and Effective Leaders 

  • Design leadership and management programs for new, emerging, and experienced people leaders 
  • Partner with senior leaders to strengthen people leadership and inclusive leadership capability and effectiveness 
  • Support succession planning and internal talent development 

 

Strengthen Field & Technical Capability 

  • Develop practical, job‑relevant training for field‑based and operational teams 
  • Partner with Operations, Safety, and subject matter experts to ensure training reflects real site conditions and aligns with standards. 
  • Support consistency and knowledge‑sharing across regions 

 

Own the Learning Management System 

  • Build and manage ConeTec’s LMS 
  • Establish metrics to assess training effectiveness, ensure learning data is accurate, accessible, and meaningful, track completion and learning outcomes. Use insights to refine training design 
  • Prepare reports and present finding to senior leadership 

 

Partner with on Onboarding & Talent 

  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to design high‑quality onboarding programs and content at all levels, ensuring new hires - both field and office‑based - have a consistent, engaging, and well‑supported start 
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of DEIB initiatives 


SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


Experience Requirements

  • Proven experience designing, delivering and evaluating the impact of learning and development programs in a global organization, ideally in the resource (Exploration, Mining, Oil and Gas), extractive, construction or adjacent sectors with exposure to both field and office-based roles. 
  • Strong background creating and implementing leadership development and practical field–based training programs 
  • Experience implementing or managing a learning management system (BambooHR is an asset) and content authoring tools 
  • Adept to supporting both office‑based and field‑based teams 
  • Ability to connect learning outcomes to business results 

 

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Adult Education, or a related field 
  • HR or adult learning certifications (CTP, CTDP, facilitation credentials etc.) or other professional learning certifications considered an asset 
  • 7+ years of progressive experience assessing learning needs, and building training programs for global organizations that are growing 

 

Soft skill requirements

  • Hands‑on and adaptable - you’re comfortable creating content and facilitating sessions 
  • Excellent oral, written skills and facilitation skill – you can make complex topics easy to understand.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
