We are seeking a qualified Engineering Manager to join our client’s Real Estate Investment Management team and lead technical evaluations for our institutional equity clients. The Engineering Manager supports and executes key engineering, environmental risk, and capital program initiatives across the company’s U.S. portfolio. In this role, you will provide a review of construction management, building technology, and property condition and/or environmental risk assessments to support commercial real estate investments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquisitions/Dispositions: Lead due diligence primarily for acquisitions, working with third-party consultants in evaluating building systems, construction quality, environmental and seismic conditions, and long‑term capital needs. Provide expert recommendations and cost assessments to support accurate underwriting and risk evaluation.  Also assist with technical direction on dispositions and related analysis.
  • Development: Oversee the management and consulting associated with entitlement, budgeting, design, bidding, construction, and close‑out activities for development, redevelopment, environmental remediation, capital projects, and tenant improvements. Provide related advisory services from development team selection through project completion, supporting value engineering, monitoring sustainability goals, and guide field progress to reduce risk and enhance asset value.
  • Asset Management: Provide guidance and technical expertise to asset management, portfolio management, property management, and leasing teams on all physical aspects of the real estate portfolio.
  • Sustainability: Provide guidance and technical expertise related to sustainability initiatives aligned with client goals, including energy/water efficiency, renewable and on‑site generation opportunities, and building automation improvements. Additionally, help to facilitate LEED, ENERGY STAR, and other industry certifications where client directed.
  • Technical Risk Translation: Distill complex engineering data from the above activities to assist acquisitions, underwriting, and asset management teams in preparation of executive-level reporting for Institutional Investment Committees, highlighting "deal-breakers" and mitigation strategies.
  • Industry leadership: Stay current on industry trends, engineering standards, and best practices. Represent client interests in industry forums to strengthen risk management, protect asset value, and support competitive investment performance.

Qualifications & Core Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or fields applicable to construction management
  • Experience: 10+ years in commercial real estate due diligence or forensic engineering, specifically supporting institutional equity investors (pension funds, PE firms, REITs)
  • Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with ASTM standards and building systems (HVAC, building envelope, electrical, and structural).  Must have knowledge of national, state, and local regulatory standards
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to explain technical failures in terms of financial impact and risk.  Success in this position requires strong client service orientation, the ability to make effective decisions, and proven consulting and project management skills
  • Travel: Ability to travel periodically to project sites nationally/regionally
