Job Description

Position Summary 

SCA Pittsburgh's Young Adult Summer crew will be made up of 5 members and 1 adult mentor crew leaders. The program will work in various Pittsburgh locations with occasional environmental education trips. This program is an intermediate level position with the goal of connecting young people with nature. The program is 50-75% conservation field work, such as improving trails, managing invasive species, and planting native species. The remainder of the program 25-50% is environmental education, leadership development, and workforce readiness. This program meets Monday-Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm.

Schedule 

June 8, 2026 - August 7, 2026

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

The program is 50-75% conservation field work, such as improving trails, managing invasive species, and planting native species. The remainder of the program 25-50% is environmental education, leadership development, and workforce readiness. Participants will work outside in all weather conditions, and engage in team building activities. This program will rove throughout Pittsburgh an participants need to arrive on time, with all required equipment.

 

Marginal Duties 

Attend 3 week leader training, including a week of camp based work in Ohio; Attend 2 night camping trip

 

Required Qualifications 

Participation in previous SCA or similar program with a letter of reference from supervisor.

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Ability to articulate how being a conversation leader will improve their chosen field

 

Hours 

40 per week

Compensation  

$16/hour (27.5 hours per week during the field season and 40hrs per week during training)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
