Job Description

Summary:
Instructional tutors have the opportunity to help at-risk students on a one-on-one or small-group basis outside of the regular classroom.  An instructional tutor's job is to meet students to provide them with educational strategies and help so they can succeed in school.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Help students learn by reviewing content with them.
  • Provide explanation and problem solving techniques for content.
  • Check student’s completed work.
  • Help students develop study skills and organizing techniques to help improve their academic performance.
  • Maintain accurate attendance logs.
  • Supervising individual or groups of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications Requirements:

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate is required.
  • Possess a passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help students find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts.
  • Possess patience for students having trouble understanding the content.
  • Must have a positive attitude and know ways to motivate students when they become frustrated by material they do not understand.
  • Experience working with at-risk students.
  • A track record of successful interventions with students that promote student growth.

Rate of Pay:  $37.53 per hour 


Language Skills: 
Ability to read and interpret documents and directions/instructions. Ability to speak effectively to staff, students, and community members.
 
 
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
