Title: ELA/English Teacher
Position Purpose
To deliver standards-based instruction in English Language Arts aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence for grades 6�8; to develop students' skills in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, speaking, listening, vocabulary acquisition, and literary analysis; and to maintain a safe, orderly, and legally compliant learning environment that supports all learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence and district curriculum in reading, writing, grammar, composition, speaking, and literature.
Use research-based instructional practices and adjust instruction based on assessment data in compliance with GaDOE expectations.
Differentiate instruction for students with disabilities in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and district accommodation plans.
Administer and document required assessments; maintain accurate records in compliance with FERPA, GaDOE regulations, and district procedures.
Maintain a safe, orderly classroom environment, enforcing student conduct rules consistent with district policy and O.C.G.A. �20-2-1184 (student supervision).
Communicate academic progress with students and parents in accordance with FERPA and district guidelines.
Protect confidentiality of student information under state and federal law.
Participate in required professional learning as mandated by GaDOE, GaPSC, or district leadership.
Collaborate with school and district personnel to support student learning and school improvement efforts.
Use district instructional technology and data systems for teaching, reporting, and communication requirements.
Fulfill all mandatory reporting responsibilities, including child abuse (O.C.G.A. �19-7-5), bullying incidents, and other required safety reporting.
Follow the GaPSC Code of Ethics for Educators in all professional conduct and decision-making.
Perform other duties assigned by the Principal that fall within legal guidelines, certification limits, and district expectations.

Equipment: Use of district-required instructional technology, computers, and standard classroom equipment.
Travel Requirements: Travel to school district buildings, professional meetings, and events as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence for Middle Grades English Language Arts.
Knowledge of instructional strategies aligned with LCSS and GaDOE expectations for literacy, writing, and language development.
Knowledge of federal and state education laws (IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, Title VI, Title IX, O.C.G.A. Title 20).
Ability to maintain accurate instructional and compliance records.
Proficiency with instructional technology and district data/reporting systems.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain ethical conduct and professional boundaries under GaPSC Ethics Rule 505-6-.01.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards: Ability to perform standard classroom duties including standing, walking, communicating, using technology, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications
Certification/License:
Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in Middle Grades ELA (4�8) or English (6�12).
Must meet certification requirements under O.C.G.A. �20-2-200.
Must maintain GaPSC ethics clearance, fingerprinting, and background check requirements.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in English Education, Middle Grades Education (ELA concentration), or a related field (GaPSC requirement).
Graduate degree preferred but not legally required.
Experience: Prior successful teaching experience in the appropriate grade level or content area preferred.
