Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking applicants for the position of Finance Analyst to begin July 1, 2026. This position is a 260 day contract, 8 hours/day, eligible for benefits, and on the RCPS Pay Plan Grade 117.
Position Description/Job Summary:
Manages and performs professional-level work in the areas of workers’ compensation, risk management, and financial operations. Conducts accounting and budget analyses, prepares financial reports, and supports compliance and reporting requirements using electronic financial systems. Exercises independent judgment in the coordination of assigned functions and works under general direction. Performs other duties as assigned.
Interviews will begin immediately and position will remain open until filled.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
Risk Management (approximately 60%)
- Administers the workers’ compensation program, serving as liaison between employees, administrators, and third-party administrators
- Monitors and reconciles workers’ compensation claim payments and identifies discrepancies
- Coordinates and manages non-vehicle insurance claims with carriers
- Leads claim review meetings and maintains supporting documentation
- Prepares and analyzes required reports, identifying trends and areas of concern
- Prepares and enters journal and budget entries
- Prepares and analyzes financial reports and supporting schedules
- Performs account reconciliations and resolves discrepancies
- Assists with audit preparation, including development of work papers
- Maintains capital asset records and supports reporting requirements
- Coordinates and prepares taxable fringe benefit reporting in compliance with applicable regulations
- Processes accounts receivable and payable transactions
- Processes purchasing card transactions for the finance department
- Maintains electronic and physical files
- Performs other duties as assigned

· Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
· Workers’ compensation and insurance claims administration preferred
· Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies or trends
· Communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
· Prepare clear and concise financial reports and documentation
· Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently
· Exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
· 3–5 years of relevant experience
· Experience in governmental or school finance preferred
