    EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: 2026-2027 School Year



    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    • To direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music, provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities, create an atmosphere in the band program that encourages students' continued growth and development, and ensure compliance with all state University interscholastic League (UIL) and district requirements.                            

    QUALIFICATIONS: 
    Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor's Degree, with appropriate state certification in band.

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    • Possess knowledge of overall operations of an instrumental band music program.
    • Exhibit ability to manage budgets.
    • Demonstrate strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on strong, healthy teacher/student and teacher/parent relationships.
    • Possess knowledge of state and UIL policies governing orchestra.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable                   

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Three years of teaching and band directing experience preferred.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Maintain UIL quality standards for the top 8th grade performing group.
    • Exhibit high level of expertise in teaching middle school instrument classes, with an emphasis on proper fundamentals.
    • Direct middle school instrumental performers, including concert band, soloist, and ensembles.
    • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.
    • Work with the HS director on the creation and implementation of a comprehensive cluster recruiting plan.
    • Schedule and direct consistent before and after school sectionals and rehearsals.
    • Create an atmosphere in the band program that encourages students' continued growth and development, and creates a desire in those students to continue their participation in the program.
    • Provide for band participation at extracurricular events including concerts, football games, pep rallies, and UIL activities.  Any possible inability to participate must be discussed with and approved by the Director of Fine Arts long before any event or entry deadline.
    • Ensure appropriate student participation in TMEA All Region auditions, All City Bands, and solo and ensemble contest.
    • Judge at all appropriate district, region, and TMEA events.
    • Implement the policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and board policy in the area of band.
    • Support and coordinate band parent support group activities.
    • Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
    • Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
    • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
    • Ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are well-managed.
    • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs, including operating and budgets and capital outlay.
    • Recommend policies to improve the program.
    • Maintain and manage campus band policy and procedure booklet for students and parents.
    • Maintain and manage a current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
    • Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
    • Team teach at the high school which your school feeds as time allows.
    • Maintain consistent attendance.
    • Attend regular cluster staff meetings to discuss and facilitate consistency in curriculum alignment and teaching methods.
    • Work with head high school directors of your cluster in the scheduling of all middle school band classes to maximize the use of available high school staff assigned to your campus.
    • Attend district-wide band meetings with the Director of Fine Arts.
    • Write reports and use effective written communication.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
