The Data Annotator is responsible for producing high‑quality labeled speech, text, and audio data used in machine learning training, evaluation, and human‑in‑the‑loop review workflows. This role applies consistent perceptual judgment while adhering to evolving annotation guidelines, ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and scalability across research and production use cases.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

  • Listen to and review recorded speech, audio, and text data to provide accurate perceptual judgments
  • Annotate speech, language, and audio data according to established guidelines for ML training, evaluation, and humanintheloop reviews
  • Apply consistent labeling across large datasets while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Adapt to evolving annotation guidelines, task types, and project requirements
  • Handle unique or experimental data annotation requests as needed
  • Identify and flag ambiguities, edge cases, or data quality issues
  • Contribute feedback to improve annotation guidelines, workflows, and tools
  • Meet quality, throughput, and turnaround expectations for assigned tasks
  • Use AI-‑assisted tools (LLMs) to accelerate annotation where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams and developers to improve dataset quality.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, Linguistics, Data Science (or related fields)
  • Minimum 2+ years experience with data annotation (or related fields)
  • Ability to work independently in a structured, guidelinedriven environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and consistency
  • Ability to follow structured guidelines
  • Ability to work extensively with audio and text content
  • Clear written communication and comprehension skills
  • Comfort performing repetitive tasks while maintaining quality
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
  • Previous experience working in a data annotation tool (e.g., Doccano, Label Studio, ELAN or similar)
  • Experience with text classification – NER, entity tagging
  • Experience with audio transcription, sentiment tagging

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with data annotation, labeling, or humanintheloop workflows
  • Familiarity with machine learning or datadriven products
  • Previous experience in a call center, customer service, quality assurance, or review role
  • Understanding of AI/ML basics
  • Familiarity with prompting Generative AI & LLMs
