BAE Systems is seeking a Principal Aerospace Materials Engineer for an exciting opportunity to develop new capabilities for the Mk21A Reentry Vehicle (RV) Program. This position will provide aerospace materials expertise support to a large DoD acquisition program. The new RV program focuses on designing, developing, producing, and deploying a new payload for the Sentinel ICMB weapon system.This payload will consist of a new heatshield, nosetip, and other composite components.
This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to shape the development and deployment of our nation’s newest re-entry vehicle—the national security critical backbone of our nuclear deterrent capability. A successful candidate is creative, flexible, and comfortable handling diverse and sometimes conflicting priorities. Job location will be at Hill AFB, Utah.
Additional responsibilities include providing weapon system expertise in conducting integrated engineering-level assessments of analysis, production, verification, validation, operation, maintenance, and problem resolution processes as part of the program development cycle and to identify and mitigate design, production, and test deficiencies that could impact successful development. The successful candidate will have a strong background in materials engineering working closely with our team to analyze test results, develop and characterize heat shield materials, and design and optimize ballistic thermal protection systems.

- B.S. degree in engineering, mathematics or physics.
- At least 12 years of progressive technical experience or 10 years with a Master’s Degree.
- Aerospace Material knowledge and associated manufacturing processes.
- Experience in aerospace material testing and analysis.
- Experience with ICBM Weapon Systems Engineering and/or SysML principles.
- Must possess and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance.

Preferred Skills and Education
- B.S. degree in Material, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
- At least 12 years of progressive technical experience in materials/aerospace engineering with a focus in aerospace materials and material testing analysis.
- Knowledge of heatshield or composite materials, associated manufacturing processes, and the science behind effective ballistic thermal protection systems (TPS), NARC Rayon, and private industry heatshield materials for multi-platform use.
- Able to provide program level review of CDRLs and test results analysis.
- Familiarity with test result analysis software utilization.
- Familiarity with program management principles, including cost, schedule, and performance assessment.
- Excellent cognitive, communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills, briefing and providing reports to executive-level leaders.
- Experience with DoD acquisition programs.
