Position Summary:
The department chairperson will serve as a primary link between the principal and the teaching staff in the areas of supervision and administration, budget, and functions relating to academic discipline. The major specific duties are listed below.
- Organize Extended Monday department meetings for grades 6-8
- Meet with administration biweekly to discuss issues related to curriculum
- Plan in-service and professional development programs
- Provide minutes of department meetings
- Monitor implementation and consistency of the curriculum in grade level departments
- Organize GRADE/GMADE testing
- Advocate for needs of the department to administration
- Align curriculum expectations across grade levels
- Order instructional materials for department
- Organize Curriculum Night and Course Selection Night
- Ensure curriculum consistency between like courses in and between MS and HS
- Act as a liaison for curriculum director and building principal regarding curriculum issues
- Serve on District-level committees to review curriculum on the cycle and provide feedback on District goals related to curriculum and student achievement.
